چکیده

Monte Carlo simulations of mono– and polydisperse two–dimensional crystals are reported. The particles in the studied system, interacting through hard–core repulsive Yukawa potential, form a solid phase of hexagonal lattice. The elastic properties of crystalline Yukawa systems are determined in the NpT ensemble with variable shape of the periodic box. Effects of the Debye screening length (κ), contact value of the potential (ǫ), and the size polydispersity of particles on elastic properties of the system are studied. The simulations show that the polydispersity of particles strongly influences the elastic properties of the studied system, especially on the shear modulus. It is also found that the elastic moduli increase with density and their growth rate depends on the screening length. Shorter screening length leads to faster increase of elastic moduli with density and decrease of the Poisson’s ratio. In contrast to its three-dimensional version, the studied system is non-auxetic, i.e. shows positive Poisson’s ratio.

Auxeticity of Yukawa Systems with Nanolayers in the (111) Crystallographic Plane

Elastic properties of model crystalline systems, in which the particles interact via the hard potential (infinite when any particles overlap and zero otherwise) and the hard-core repulsive Yukawa interaction, were determined by Monte Carlo simulations. The influence of structural modifications, in the form of periodic nanolayers being perpendicular to the crystallographic axis [111], on auxetic...

Phase diagrams of hard-core repulsive Yukawa particles.

We determine the phase behavior of hard spheres interacting with repulsive Yukawa (screened Coulomb) interaction using computer simulations. We study the effect of the hard-core diameter on the phase behavior of repulsive Yukawa particles by comparing our phase diagrams with that of repulsive point Yukawa particles. We show that for sufficiently high contact values of the pair potential (betaep...

A Hard Convex Core Yukawa Equation of State for Nonassociated Chain Molecules

The compressibility factor of nonassociated chain molecules composed of hard convex core Yukawa segments was derived with SAFT-VR and an extension of the Barker-Henderson perturbation theory for convex bodies. The temperature-dependent chain and dispersion compressibility factors were derived using the Yukawa potential. The effects of temperature, packing fraction, and segment number on the com...

Structure factors for the simplest solvable model of polydisperse colloidal fluids with surface adhesion

Closed analytical expressions for scattering intensity and other global structure factors are derived for a new solvable model of polydisperse sticky hard spheres. The starting point is the exact solution of the “mean spherical approximation” for hard core plus Yukawa potentials, in the limit of infinite amplitude and vanishing range of the attractive tail, with their product remaining constant...

Structural analysis of a dipole system in two-dimensional channels.

A system of magnetic dipoles in two-dimensional (2D) channels was studied using Brownian dynamics simulations. The dipoles interact with a purely repulsive r(-3) potential and are confined by two hard walls in one of the dimensions. Solid crystals were annealed in the 2D channels and the structural properties of the crystals were investigated. The long-ranged nature of the purely repulsive dipo...
